Is it fair to say, Lomu brought the game of Rugby U to the masses, that is people like me who were indifferent to the sport until Lomu rocked up?

By the way, that Haka they did at his funeral was so emotional and a terrific way to send him off

RIP Jonah Lomu

You are probably trolling I get it but here goes:

My friends back home, when I would extol the virtues of proper football growing up, would says things like:

"All it is a whole lot of running, play acting and 0-0s"

Now that statement is as true as yours saying, "there is little in the way of skill, just running and catching,"

They were ignorant of football and by going by your statement, you are ignorant of the workings of American football. Unless you were to change that statement, I will continue to think that you don't know what you are talking about and yelling that you do, doesn't change a thing. Sorry.

""People who lack knowledge on a given subject should keep quiet or they tend to look like they lack intelligence!""

This should not be addressed to me as, as already stated, I do understand American "football", and am therefore qualified to comment that as a live spectacle it is shit.

Re: American football
Many are clueless with the sport.

Some positions have pretty short career spans due to how fucked up their bodies get, padding or not. Extremely physical game, especially back I'm the day before they brought in a lot of safety to give some players better protection.

Seen tons of horrific injuries watching it.

Correct.

Half the people on here calling them poofs probably couldn't do 50 push-ups if someone gave them 10 grand.

I currently live in Boston and they love *their* Football. Me, I can get from home to work and not even notice the Superbowl winners parade.

To be fair, all the sports teams here have won a Championship in the last 10-years (not the MLS team).

It is nice to live in a City where they win things,

P.S. They hate, absolutely hate the Yankees.

Re: American football
American Football is an American rock band from Urbana, Illinois, originally active from 1997 until 2000 and reunited in 2014. Guitarist/bassist and singer Mike Kinsella (formerly of Cap'n Jazz and Joan of Arc and currently of Owen), drummer and trumpet player Steve Lamos (formerly of The One Up Downstairs, one-time member of The Firebird Band and Edward Burch & the Staunch Characters, and currently of The Geese and DMS), and guitar player Steve Holmes (also of The Geese) formed the band. American Football reunited in 2014 and played a festival set and announced three headline shows in the fall of that year. They have since remained together.

To call them Nancy-boys for wearing padding is laughable.
The average height of the LA Chargers Offensive Linemen is 6'6" with an average weight of 327 lbs (over 23 stone!!)
These are huge fuckers

Re: American football

What you describe certainly has credence as to the beginnings of what we now know as Association Football on this side of the pond.

Its those daft Yanks that want to Americanise everything and call our beloved game of Football Soccer! And then invent their own version of Football that no none else plays (barring Canadians of course) or understands

Re: American football
I was on a cheap flight in the 90's surrounded by the London Monarchs. Naturally they were all fucking MASSIVE units with necks the size of my torso who found standing up easier than sitting for most of the.flight.

Funniest bit was when a huge brother who was obviously seeing out the end of his career and was less than impressed with the whole easyJet experience had a ghetto rant.

I played in three THREE motherfucking Superbowls and it's come to this. MOTHERFUCKER.

I laughed. The huge white bloke sat next to me sniggered and then copped a ghetto volley from his team mate.

I would imagine most of those lads are in either in wheelchairs or dead from steroid abuse by now.
